As a hull builder I have had my decent share of out of the ordinary mishaps on constructions of many sorts. I have been running in the city of hull for many years now and in that time I have had some genuinely terrific experiences constructing households, extensions, patios, conversions and so on. Not all of my thoughts are magnificent however.

It was hard to get started as there were not very many areas that offered guidance. I was fortunate as a colleague on mine was able to acquire me some work working for the company he had recently joined. From there I in essence learned by observing plus being told what to do on the job. A number of the big fellas were slave masters and didn’t take kindly to mistakes, nevertheless I shortly picked it up and was able to gain knowledge of a lot through my time there.

After a few years I was extremely competent as a hull builder and wished to branch out on my own. I began to found my own company with my friend so we took some minor savings and purchased our original van and a quantity of vital tools. The first job opportunities we were able to find were through suggestions as well as relatives anf friends. It was more unsophisticated stuff like constructing garden bulwark and so on, but it paid the bills. After a while we began making a bit more cash and began to pay for some marketing, company cards, and a sign for the truck. Then we were really flying!

There have been a couple of dire mishaps along the way however. I recollect not being paid on a few occasions. Not because we had completed a poor job, just that the client and us had a variation of opinion about what was requested. That’s one of the downfalls about being a hull surveyor, you have to do business with folks who every now and then are extremely irrational and upset if the work you do on their house isn’t what they had been expecting, but you win some and you lose some.

There have been a number of exceptionally odd times as well. I remember once upon a time when me and my group were invited to an elderly ladies house as she sought to obtain a quotation for us to widen her stairway so she could get a stair lift built-in. She was quite elderly to say the least plus had a lot of troubles hearing me. Not only that, she was conceivably losing her recollection a little too, she was around 87. Anyhow, I had to talk rather loudly to her and ended up shouting which resulted in the neighbours to buzz the police force.

They turned up knocking at the door whilst the old lady was in the kitchen making us coffee. When she came back into the drawing room she had absolutely forgotten even talking to me five minutes ago. The police were fast to take steps, but following a few minutes explanation and laughs all round, I was on my way. The woman did not finish up getting a quote after all.

Overall, becoming a hull builder has been a wonderful career decision and I recommend it to everyone whom enjoys that type of work.
